IRISH DRIVING LICENCE CATEGORIES

In Ireland, there are several different categories of driving licences, each authorizing you to drive certain types of vehicles. The most common category is the B licence, which allows you to drive cars and vans up to 3.5 tonnes. A car driver's licence can be additionaly categorized into 'B1' for smaller vehicles like mopeds or tricycles, or 'B96'

A Irish Citizen's driving licence in Category B allows you to drive motor vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes in weight. This means you can autorizedly drive a wide variety of vehicles, including most passenger transports. To obtain a Category B licence, you'll need to complete both a written exam and a practical driving evaluation. Make sure you meet the
